CarbonTracer is a comprehensive service for calculatinggreenhouse gas emissions from transport and mobility. CarbonTracer is designed to be used free of charge not only by large companies and organisations, or developers, but also by SMEs and private individuals. The tool is a web service, which calculates greenhouse gas emissions for various different forms of transport (road, rail and air), using freely available data and services.
Our web service provides not only an API for integration into various applications; through our website we also offer numerous tools (e.g. web apps, Excel templates) for using CarbonTracer without specific expertise in IT and/or programming.
For people without IT and/or programming skills, or for SMEs without technical expertise in web services we provide several web apps via our website, which can be used to calculate greenhouse gas emissions. These web apps can also be used to try out CarbonTracer or to make individual queries and calculations.. No API key or registration is required to use these web apps – you can get started immediately.
For developers or organisations and companies with the appropriate expertise in web services we provide an API which enables CarbonTracer to be integrated into your own applications or to calculate larger volumes of data. To use the API, you need to complete a one-time registration process, using a valid e-mail address. By registering you will obtain an API key which allows you to make queries. You can then make up to 40 queries per minute and up to 2,000 queries per day. If this quota is exceeded, the API returns the relevant error message.
Our API documentation provides an overview of which functions our API offers and how they can be used. Here you will also find example queries and information on error messages.
Our API also offers a “plain text version” which enables CarbonTracer to be used in applications such as MS Excel. To save you having to create the formulas in Excel yourself, we provide an appropriate Excel template on our website.
Please note that a valid API key is needed to use the template.
The services and tools on our website are constantly improved and extended. We are also working hard to develop new tools so that we can make CarbonTracer available to even more people.
If you would like to set up CarbonTracer as a local instance in your company, or if the available quota of requests is not sufficient, please contact us directly at hr-applications@uni-graz.at to discuss further possibilities.
We aim to constantly expand and improve the services offered, the quality of our web service and the available data resources. The data and calculations we offer are based purely on freely available datasets, which means we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the calculations. In the event of errors, problems, incorrect calculations or other difficulties, please contact us directly by e-mail at hr-applications@uni-graz.at.
